FXPHD Course – Lighting in XSI
Just wanted to let everyone know that they’re re-running my “Lighting in XSI” course at FXPHD. The complete description of each class is here and the material is 99% different from the “XSI In Production” course that I just finished. All of the videos have been recorded but I’ll still be on the fxphd forums to answer questions directly.

Hi Lucas, I wanted to ask if you were contemplating teaching any Maya courses in the future.

Hey Avi, most likely not. I’ve used Maya but not for quite a while and I’m in no way qualified to teach a class on it. The courses have been good because it gives me a chance to really delve into some XSI specific stuff whereas the podcasts try to be as package-neutral as possible.

Thanks for the info Lucas… maybe I’ll just have to convert to XSI haha. Do you know if studios these days still train artists to switch packages, or would you recommend picking up a general knowledge of various 3D packages to aid in getting hired? I’m more of a modeler than anything, but your rigging demos are so damn appealing!

Especially for modelling pretty much all packages are the same. That’s a good question though so I’ll do a longer post on it next week.

Hey Jason, I think that they already re-ran the lighting course, so I’m not sure if its still available. If you ask on FXPHD, sometimes they’re re-run the class again.
